Thanks to all of you for your sweet comments and support. *hugs friends*
The viewing will be tomorrow night from 6 to 8, and the funeral will be Wednesday at 11. J is understandably very down tonight. He's already in bed. He was very close to Granny - - she babysat him a lot when he was little, and she lived next door until right before we were married.
We found out one reason J's dad took it so hard - - not that he needs a reason. Larae called back with the details about the arrangements and said that Granny asked for Dad, and she died right after he came in.
Last week, Jan's mom's best friend died of cancer. She was at home, with her daughter, husband, grandkids and Jan and her mom there. They were right there when she died. I never been with someone when they died. I always assumed I would be there when Mom died. J's mom says that's why she died while she was in the hospital - - that she knew how devastating it would be for me. I can't imagine how J's dad must be feeling. It's going to be a rough few days.
Keep us in your thoughts. Love you all. I hope to one day make a happy post again.

5:30 pm - Granny Kirkley died this afternoon

She died around 3 this afternoon. Her regular doctor saw her this morning. J's dad called me at 11 to tell me they had to do surgery on her colon - - something about her having a spastic colon and it was blocked, and that was one thing that had her in pain. Her blood pressure was dropping then, and she died before they could even schedule surgery. I don't have all the details yet, or any funeral arrangements. J's dad was in bad shape when J talked to him. He and Linda were going to make the arrangements at 5, so we should know in a little while.

Thanks to everyone for their good thoughts and comments. I did stay with J's mom and the kids while J, his dad, and Evil!Granny from Florida went to see Granny Kirkley. She knew everyone, and even asked about me(her speech has gotten better), but the stroke affected her movement more this time, and she's miserable not being able to do anything for herself.
J's dad had to make the decision not to resuscitate Granny yesterday. As far as knowing what to do(Granny feels the way me, J and his mom and dad do, that we don't want to live via machine), it was easy. But actually doing it was understandably very upsetting for him. I'm reminded again of how glad I was Mom did a living will so I was never faced with that.
Granny is stable, but we all now what's coming - - they're giving her aspirin and other meds to help with the arteries as much as possible, but more strokes are inevitable.
I'm exhausted, as much from stress as anything else, although the girls were a handful yesterday. We were very glad when Ronnie and Larae got back home.
J's mom is doing fairly well, but every time they try to increase her chemo dosage, it affects her too badly and they have to drop it back. She has at least 6 more, once a week and steadily increasing again each week. She(and the rest of us) are hoping that's all the chemo she'll have to d. She's chosen not to have radiation - - it will make it impossible for the doctor to reattach her colon and she says she wants to get back to a normal life. I can't really argue with her. I know now that quality of life is as important as quantity.

12:53 pm - J's granny had another stroke

It seems lately that I only post to relate bad news and ask for good thoughts, but Granny Kirkley is back in the hospital. She had another stroke, and this time, so far she hasn't gotten her speech or movement back. And she may not. Her doctor says it's the arteries hardening in her brain, and as it gets worse, she'll keep having strokes until she eventually has a really bad one that is fatal. We're off to the hospital - - or at least J's mom and dad's - - I'm not sure I want to go to the hospital. I may stay with J's mom and let him and his dad go. I don't know if I should wish she gets better, since this is going to keep happening, or for her to go on, which is what she wants. But her loss is going to hurt so many people.

Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts! They seem to have helped - - Granny is doing much better - - her speech is improving, and she's getting some movement back on her right side. Her doctor is getting her set up for physical therapy, and she'll be moving to a regular room tomorrow. If she continues to do well, she can go back to the nursing home in a few days.

9:04 pm - Prayers and good thoughts needed

J's granny, the sweet one, had a stroke this morning. Please pray for her and think good thoughts for us.
Jan and I went to Warner Robins for my birthday. We were leaving Starbuck's when J's dad called to say his(adoptive) mom had a stroke around 5AM. He wanted me to call Larae at Wal Mart and let her know - - he was on his way to Hawkinsville for her chemo. I called J to let him know and he called her. J and his dad both told us to go ahead with our day out, there was really nothing that could be done. We did, but it really cast a pall on the day. Jan dropped me by the hospital, and we just got back here about an hour ago. She's stable, but the stoke affected her right side and her speech, but she was alert when we left. I couldn't go in, and don't know of I'll be able to later. I don't want to see her that way and I feel awful about it, but there you are.

Happy 4th to those who celebrate it! To everyone else, Happy Friday!
We're off soon to my aunt and uncle's for my uncle's excellent barbecued chicken(for me and him) and hamburgers(for J and my aunt - - they say the chicken's too messy)and potato salad.
1. What drink wakes you up best in the morning?It doesn't necessarily wake me up, but I usually have hot tea or juice.
2. During the day, what do you drink to keep going? I drink water or juice.
3. Do you drink the recommended 8 glasses of water per day? Why/why not? Usually more - - I always have a cup of ice water or a bottle of water with me at all times.
4. What are the ingredients of your favorite mixed drink? (Doesn't have to be alcoholic!) LOL - - ice tea and lemon. Or coffee and whatever else McDonald's out in vanilla iced coffee.
5. Are you a coffee drinker? How do you take your coffee, if so? I like flavored coffee, or cappuccino, latte, etc better. If I drink regular coffee, lots of cream and sugar.

I'm f**king unemployed again. As of today. Lay offs. And since I've only been back 3 months, I was on the list. This is actually the second lay off - - there were some last week, too. My immediate supervisor was very pissed off, and made me go talk to the head of the department, not that it did any good. I feel depressed, down, hopeless. I'm right back where I was, and we were just getting caught up on our bills.
