I was off work today, and I made fudge - - rocky road and plain. It was yummy. I had to sample it and make sure it was okay before I gave it to anyone, right?
Tonight while I was making dinner, J came in to report that our router died, which required a trip to Wal Mart. It also meant we could go ahead and get our last gift, for J's dad, though. My shopping is finally done!
We're doing a late Christmas Eve at J's mom and dad's - - I have to work until 7 - - and we're doing a simple dinner, something I've been suggesting for ages, to J's mom and to my mom before her. We're having fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and cole slaw. I'm making the cole slaw and I'm buying a cake for dessert - - a positively sinful chocolate ganache. While we were shopping tonight, J said he was sort of sad that we were doing that, that it didn't seem right not to have a special dinner.
J's mom is having surgery next Monday, the 29th, to(hopefully - - the doctor wouldn't commit to a definite yes) reattach her colon, and to fix a hernia. Everyone think good thoughts for her, and us that all goes well.
Also, please send good thoughts to some friends: lorelei633 and her mom, who has been in the hospital, rakina and her mom, who had a fall recently, luvmax1 who just had a sad anniversary, peach1250, who just lost a dear uncle, and wadjet_theperv, who's having work-related woes.
